Outreach - How we're involved in the community
There are many ways Christ Church Aylmer parishioners participate in the life of the community; here are a few:
Children's playgroup– The parish hosts a free drop-in playgroup on Tuesday mornings, between 9:30 - 11:30 Parents, caregivers and children under 6 are welcome to join in the fun and social activities.
Daily Bread Sunday – On the first Sunday of the month parishioners bring non-perishable goods to the service. These are donated to the Centre D’Alimentation Aylmer (Aylmer Food Centre).
Plant and yard sale – Our annual plant and yard sale, usually the last weekend in May, is a chance to sell some of the unwanted items in our basements and attics. The plant sale includes perennial cuttings from parishioners' gardens and plants they have grown from seed. It's an excellent opportunity to fill the holes in your garden with new plants at very economical prices. We also donate 10 per cent of the proceeds of our annual plant and yard sale to the Aylmer Food Centre.
Support to diocesan programs – Over three percent of Christ Church’s expenditures each year go towards programs offered or supported by the Diocese of Ottawa. Some of these programs are offered in the greater Ottawa area, such as The Well and Centre 454; some are provided by the Canadian church across the country; and some are offered world-wide.
