Who We Are

Christ Church, Aylmer, is the Anglican Church in the Aylmer Sector of the city of Gatineau. We are part of the Diocese of Ottawa and the Deanery of Clarendon, which includes much of Western Quebec. Our church is located at the corner of Symmes St. and Frank-Robinson St. We worship every Sunday in a very historic building, constructed in 1858. Our Sunday services include a more reflective quiet service of Holy Communion at 8:00 a.m. without music, and a more lively service of Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m. with a mix of traditional and contemporary music. In the summer months, we hold only one service each Sunday, at 9:30 a.m., either Holy Communion or Morning Prayer, with music.

Our sister parish is St-Bernard de Clairvaux. St. Bernard de Clairvaux is an Anglican parish that worships in French. They meet at Christ Church Aylmer every Sunday at 11:15 am and are served by Christ Church Aylmer rector Rev. Eric Morin.

At Christ Church Aylmer, we perform baptisms, confirmations, weddings and funerals. All use of the church is Christ-centred and in keeping with the mission of the Parish to be “a welcoming community, joyfully worshipping the Lord, growing in faith, caring for each other, and reaching out to the world God loves.”

For some services, we chrage a fee because of the work involved on the part of the parish, the priest and the music director. All services performed at Christ Church, Aylmer, are at the discretion of the Incumbent Priest or Priest-in-charge. The church is sometimes also made available for other use such as worship by another denomination or music recital and concerts.

We work together on an ongoing basis to fulfill Our Vision. We want to grow by sharing, worshipping, learning and playing together. We are also very interested in reaching out to the community around us. We are a small parish, but continually strive to meet the needs of those in our community. We have taken on an initiative to feed the hungry. We have a daily bread Sunday, meaning that on the first Sunday of the month, parishioners donate non-perishable goods during the church service. These are then given to the Aylmer Food Centre. We also donate a percentage of our annual plant and yard sale and strawberry social to the Aylmer Food Centre . Our parish also participates – through donations of time, seeds, tools and finances – in the Aylmer Collective Garden, helping low income families plant and grow their own herbs and vegetables.
